Monegan was fired in July, after he declined a transfer to become the director to the state's alcohol control board.
At the time Palin said she wanted the department to move in a new direction. But later, after Monegan said he felt pressured to fire Wooten, Palin at a news conference said Monegan wasn't a team player, didn't do enough to fill trooper vacancies and battle alcohol abuse issues in rural Alaska.

Now that's odd. If Monegan was doing such a crap job "battling alcohol abuse issues in rural Alaska," why on earth would Palin want him running the state's booze board?
Either a) this is an abuse of power (highly improbable, as she still got the VP nod after thorough vetting … ahem), or b) she's a completely inept administrator who possibly believes too strongly in on-the-job training ("Can't keep a pet rock alive? How does Agriculture Secretary sound?" "Severe outdoor allergies, eh? You'll be perfect for Parks & Recreation!").
