Charlie Crist is a dickhead
I repeat, for emphasis:
Charlie Crist is a dickhead.
The man's political ambitions have always been transparent, but in the past two weeks he has crossed the line.
First, he came out (pun very much intended) in favor of offshore drilling, a third rail in Florida politics and something that we lowly taxpayers -- you know, his constituents? -- roundly oppose. I'm willing to bet that, conveniently, no oil will be found anywhere where drilling for it would obstruct Charlie's view.
Second, he announced his engagement to be (heterosexually) married. [Blink.] It appears that he met this poor woman (conveniently, not a local who might've seen his car in Georgie's parking lot) nine months ago -- if you recall, that was right around the time he was negotiating a (failed) agreement with Giuliani: Crist's endorsement for a guaranteed top spot in the veepstakes. It's safe to assume that Crist drove the same bargain with McCain, making this whole engagement thing just really pathetic, and a slap in the face to LGBT straight married people all sentient creatures.
And finally, today we learn that one of the new laws that went into effect Tuesday -- supported and signed by our dear leader -- imposes stiff penalties on travel agents selling tickets to Syria, Cuba, Sudan, North Korea, and Iran (ht: Iran Nuclear Watch). Basically, in addition to per-transaction fees, companies selling travel to these countries must put up a security bond ranging from $100,000 to $250,000 or face a felony conviction. Aside from the fact that this is at least implicitly unconstitutional, restricting travel to these "state sponsors of terrorism" -- particularly Iran -- is yet another transparent power play that will only wind up hurting the people who put him in office (and those of us who didn't).
Charlie Crist, apparently following the Straight Talk Express, has gone off the tracks. Google is already abuzz with talk of a recall election"recall+election" -- let's hope it happens!
