Learning Spanish Like Crazy

As some of you know, I've been using the Learning Spanish Like Crazy (LSLC) system to learn conversational Spanish.

(Despite the fact that the website looks more like that of one of those "MAKE $1000's FROM HOME FA$T!!!" ads that litter Craigslist than a serious language instruction program, it's actually a really good system. I tried Rosetta Stone first, but 1: made painfully slow progress, and 2: what I did learn was universally giggled at by my friends who are native speakers. LSLC focuses only on spoken Spanish, and particularly on the language as it is spoken by people from Latin America. And, a lot of attention is paid to pronunciation, with native speakers from various parts of Latin America teaching. I'm learning -- and retaining -- the language using this program much faster and better than I did in any of the classes in other languages I've taken over the years. And I'm not getting giggled at any more. /grin/ So yeah... if you're interested in learning Spanish, I really recommend LSLC. And, full disclosure: they do have an affiliate program that I'm part of, so if you buy the program after clicking one of the links in this entry, I will get a kickback. But you'll be getting a great language instruction program... so everybody wins!)

Anyway, there is a point to this entry, other than to hock the program. I've always wondered where they got the name "Learning Spanish Like Crazy" from in the first place... with a website like that, you'd think they'd give their product a bit more dignified name, at least. But I found the answer this morning while listening to a conversation that was part of today's lesson:

María: ¿A dónde corres?
René: Corro a la librería.
María: ¿Por qué corres? ¿Por qué no caminas?
René: Yo no veo mi carro.
¿Y ustedes?
René: Nosotros corremos al dormitorio.

Clearly, anyone who has conversations like that is un poquito loco. So really, the name of the program should be, "Learning Spanish Like Crazy People." /grin/
